The formula
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
This is an exact definitional relationship, not a rounded conversion factor. Worked example: 180 × 9/5 = 324, then 324 + 32 = 356 °F. Scale definitions per the NIST Guide to the SI, Appendix B.

Fan oven values assume the common 20 °C reduction. Ovens vary, so treat this as a starting point and check your own manual.
The Celsius and Fahrenheit columns are exact conversions of each other. The gas mark column is the conventional match for the Celsius figure, not an exact conversion: the gas mark scale is defined in Fahrenheit, where gas mark 4 is exactly 350 °F rather than the 356 °F that 180 °C converts to. The oven temperature chart shows both.
Where this conversion comes up
Most British and European recipes give oven temperatures in Celsius, and 180 °C and 200 °C are the two most common settings. American ovens are marked in Fahrenheit, which is why those two values dominate searches for this conversion.
Body temperature is the other frequent case. 37 °C is 98.6 °F, the figure usually quoted as normal, though normal body temperature varies between people and across the day.
Common questions
Is 180 C the same as 350 F?
Not exactly. 180 °C is 356 °F. Most American recipes round that to 350 °F, which is close enough for baking but isn't the exact conversion.
What is 200 C in Fahrenheit?
200 °C is 392 °F. American recipes usually round this to 400 °F.
Do I lower the temperature for a fan oven?
Yes. A fan or convection oven circulates hot air, so most manufacturers suggest reducing the set temperature by about 20 °C compared with a conventional oven. Check your own oven manual, since the offset varies by model.
Is the Celsius to Fahrenheit formula exact?
Yes. F = (C x 9/5) + 32 is a definitional relationship, not a measured conversion factor, so it is exact at any precision.
