What is collected
Converter Units does not ask you to create an account and does not collect personal information through its conversion tools. Every calculation runs in your browser. Values you type into a converter are not transmitted to this site or stored anywhere.
If you use the form on the contact page, it collects the name, email address, subject and message you type into it. Those are sent to a handler on readyutilities.com, which is operated by the same person who runs this site, and are used only to read and reply to your message. The form also carries a hidden field that must stay empty; it exists to catch automated submissions and collects nothing about you.
The web host records standard server logs, which may include IP address, browser type and pages requested. These are generated by the hosting infrastructure rather than by this site.
Cookies and browser storage
This site sets no cookies. Not first-party, not advertising, not analytics. There is no tracking cookie to accept or decline, which is why you are not seeing a consent banner. The Umami analytics script described under Advertising and analytics doesn't set cookies either.
Two small preferences are stored in your browser's local storage:
| Key | What it holds | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
theme | light or dark | Remembers the theme you chose so the page does not flash back on the next visit | Until you clear site data |
unitpref | us or metric | Remembers whether you prefer US or metric units, so converters lead with that system | Until you clear site data |
Both are set only when you actively use those controls, both stay on your device, and neither is transmitted anywhere or used to identify you. Under the ePrivacy Directive, storage that is strictly necessary to provide a feature the user has explicitly requested does not require consent, and a user-set interface preference falls in that category. You can clear both at any time through your browser's site-data settings.
Nothing you type into a converter is stored or transmitted. Every calculation runs in your browser.
Third parties
One script loads from another address. Each page loads the Umami analytics script from umami-analytics-lmo7.srv1953124.hstgr.cloud, a server run by the same person who operates this site. Like any web request, that request reveals your IP address to the server, which Umami uses to work out your country. Umami's documentation says it anonymizes the data it collects. Nothing else loads from another domain. The typefaces are served from this site's own server, so nothing is sent to Google when a page loads.
The contact form is the other case, and it only happens if you choose it. Submitting the contact form sends what you typed to a handler on readyutilities.com. That is a different domain but the same operator, not a third party in any meaningful sense, and no request is made until you press send.
The outbound links to NIST, BIPM, the UK Met Office, NASA and King Arthur Baking are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to those sites unless you click through.
Advertising and analytics
No advertising network is running on this site as of the date above. There is no Google AdSense code, no Google Analytics, no tag manager, and no affiliate tracking. There are no ad containers in the page layout at all, empty or otherwise.
Visits are counted with Umami, an open-source analytics tool running on a server the site owner controls rather than on a third-party analytics service. It records which pages are viewed, the referring site, browser, operating system, device type and country. Umami's documentation says its tracking code uses no cookies and collects no personally identifiable information. The figures are used only to see which converters people use and which pages need work. They aren't sold, shared or used for advertising.
Advertising is planned. Before any ad code goes live, this policy will be updated to name the network, list the cookies it sets and their purposes, and describe how personalized advertising can be turned off. A cookie consent banner will be added at the same time, because advertising cookies are not strictly necessary and do require consent from visitors in the EU and UK. That banner will offer rejecting all non-essential cookies as plainly as accepting them.
If you are reading this and seeing an advert, the policy is out of date and that is a fault worth reporting.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights over personal information held about you.
If you are in the EU or UK
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
In practice this site holds very little: no account exists, calculations are never transmitted, and the only personal data likely to concern you is what you send through the contact form and the standard server logs kept by the host.
If you are in California
Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA you have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
This site does not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and does not use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is accordingly no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanism to offer, because there is nothing being sold or shared. If advertising is added and that changes, this section and the required link will appear before any ad code goes live.
Making a request
Use the contact page and say what you are asking for. Requests are answered without charge. Because no account system exists, we may be unable to connect a request to any stored data simply because there is none, and we will tell you that plainly rather than asking you to prove who you are.
Lawful basis and retention
Where the GDPR applies, the processing on this site rests on the following bases:
- Serving the pages you request, including web server logs kept by the host: legitimate interests in operating and securing the site.
- Theme and unit preferences in local storage: strictly necessary to provide a feature you explicitly asked for by clicking the control.
- What you send through the contact form: legitimate interests in replying to you.
- Visit statistics through Umami: legitimate interests in understanding which tools are used, with a cookieless tool that anonymizes what it records.
Retention is short and simple. Server logs are kept by the hosting provider under its own retention schedule. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to deal with what you wrote about. Umami statistics are stored on the site owner's analytics server, hold no names, email addresses or cookies, and are deleted after 90 days. Local storage stays on your device until you clear it, and is not retained by us at all because it never reaches us.
The site is operated from the United States. Visitors from anywhere are welcome, and the rights described above are offered regardless of where you are.
See also the terms of service, which covers the accuracy disclaimer, and the contact page for making a data request.
Changes
This policy will be updated when the site changes in a way that affects it, in particular before advertising or analytics is enabled. The review date at the top reflects the most recent update.
This page is a plain-language summary of how the site actually works. It is not legal advice and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. It was written against guidance current in August 2026 and will need reviewing again before advertising goes live or if the site starts collecting anything it does not collect today. If you operate a business relying on this site, take your own advice.
