Two different ounces. The everyday avoirdupois ounce is 28.35 g. The troy ounce used for precious metals is 31.10 g, about 10 percent heavier. A gold price quoted per ounce means troy. Most converters offer only one and don't say which.

Worked example: 100 g ÷ 28.349523125 = 3.53 oz avoirdupois, the ounce on a food label. The same 100 g is 3.22 troy ounces.
Both ounce definitions are exact. Note that a troy pound is 12 troy ounces, not 16, so the pound relationship doesn't carry across either.

Is 30 g equal to 1 oz?
Close but not equal. One ounce is 28.35 grams, so 30 grams is about 1.06 ounces. The 30 gram approximation is fine for rough cooking and wrong for anything precise.
